Site Safety Coordinator

Location: San Francisco, CA

NOVO Construction, Inc., a Menlo Park based General Contractor is seeking a Site Safety Coordinator with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an individual basis:

  • Ensure the safety of employees, subcontractors, and the general public on the project.
  • Support all safety efforts on the project and promote NOVO Construction, Inc. safety culture.
  • Responsible for enforcing NOVO Construction, Inc. Safety and Health Policy as well as local and federal safety standards on jobsites.
  • Responsible for conducting employee safety training and consults with project supervisors to develop safe work plans for all phases and tasks.
  • Oversee and ensure the safety of employees, subcontractors, and general public.
  • Enforce corporate and project specific safety and health programs as well as federal, state, and local safety standards.
  • Assist in development and coordination of project specific safety program.
  • Identify known/potential exposures and recommend corrective action.
  • Report project specific safety performance and future plans.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement overall project specific safety programs.
  • Work closely with field supervision to plan more complex safety aspects of the project construction including critical lifts, hazardous material handling, etc.
  • Help develop project specific safety training for jobsite personnel including subcontractors.
  • Coordinate third party safety reviews including OSHA.
  • Ensure contractor activities are pre-planned for safety through scope review, preconstruction meetings, PTP, JHA review, etc.
  • Ensure contractor compliance to NOVO Construction, Inc. safety plan including but not limited to, safety submittals, training and equipment inspection and other documentation.
  • Maintain all safety related documentation.
  • Ensure contractors meet NOVO Construction, Inc. safety expectations.
  • Alert managers and employees to the hazards of working with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, and any other hazardous substances observed in the company workplace.
  • Coach project teams in effective hazard identification and correction of issues.



  • Undergraduate degree in safety and health or related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of full time construction safety experience.
  • Have experience working for a G.C. on multi-million dollar projects.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification required.
  • CHST Certification preferred.
  • Able to manage multiple, competing priorities in a deadline driven environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence supervisors, peers, and external partners.
  • Proof of training/competency in managing crane, fall protection, excavation, scaffolds, confined space and heavy equipment safety.
  • Excellent computer skills; MS Outlook, advanced MS Word, Excel, (includes creating, editing, and maintaining various applications as well as creation and maintenance of spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel).
  • Solid understanding of construction practices and procedures.
