Superintendent

Department: 021310 Superintendent
Location: San Francisco, CA

NOVO Construction, Inc., a Menlo Park based General Contractor is seeking a professional

individual with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills to work as a

Superintendent.

The Superintendent will report to the General Superintendent and will be based at the project site

working directly with the Site Project Management team.
 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an

individual basis:

 Pre-construction

• Attend and conduct project job walks

• Prepare logistics plan and construction approaches

• Contribute constructability reviews as member of the extended Design Team

• Actively participate in the General Contractor proposal and interview process

 Safety

• Conduct daily project walks

• Work with Safety Director to establish Site Specific Safety Plans

• Conduct site specific safety training and weekly Toolbox Talks

• Develop and implement site logistics plan

• Maintain a safe and efficient working environment for subcontractors and extended

construction team

• Coordinate and review Job Hazard Analysis and High Risk activities with Safety Director

and entire construction team

• Monitor and prepare safety reports with Safety Director for individual client requirements

 Field Operations

• Provide Site Supervision and direction to extended construction and subcontractor team

• Proactive problem solver with excellent dispute resolution skills

• Identify, track and manage Subcontractors scopes

• Familiar with working within a Owner/Client campus environment with work in multiple

buildings, floors or areas

• Allocate manpower and resources as required to meet schedule and Owner/Client

expectations

• Coordinate all Field Operations with Owner/Client

• Generate Daily Reports outlining all activities

• Work with Project Management to execute project goals

• Interface with Building Officials for all permitting activities and sign-off

• Work with Owner, Architect and Engineering team to resolve complex issues in a timely,

efficient manner

• Monitor and log 3rd party testing, project access and logistics plans

 Scheduling

• Prepare, monitor and update Master Schedule

• Work with Project Management to identify project progress to date

• Identify potential project impacts and proposed solutions

• Prepare 3-wk Rolling Schedules

 Meetings

• Conduct weekly Subcontractor and Foremen Meeting with Project Manager

• Attend and contribute in weekly Owner, Architect and Contractor meetings

• Review and understand RFI, Submittal and Change Order Logs

 Technical Ability

• Utilize construction background to identify field issues and suggest potential alternates

• Review subcontractor and vendor drawings and submittals for adherence to plans and

specifications

• Attend coordination meetings with Architects, Engineers and multiple subcontractor

trades

• Interface with Architect and Engineers to efficiently resolve technical issues and convey

information to field and entire team

• Proven track record for successfully completing projects at Life Science and/or Advanced

Technology client sites.

• Working knowledge of Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Good Laboratory

Practices (GLP), advanced technology facilities, strong M/E/P/F background and best

industry practice for design and construction is beneficial
 

 EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have at least 5 years of previous work experience as a Superintendent

• Completion of OSHA 30 is required

• Completion of CPR and First Aid training

• Understanding of construction practices and procedures.

• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English

• Must be able to successfully complete the background check if offered employment

• Must have basic knowledge of Building Management Systems: security, fire alarm/preaction,

FM-200, sprinkler riser location, mechanical systems, electrical systems, data

centers, and server rooms

• Must have experience with schedules and scheduling

• Able to work nights/weekends

• Strong organizational skills

• Able to follow through with tasks

• Flexible with ability to manage multiple tasks/projects concurrently.

• Resourceful, with respect to problem identification and resolution.

• Able to operate in a fast paced working environment with minimal direction from Senior

Management.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including experience with MSProject.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills

• Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth

perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the

employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or

hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel;

climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
